THE
REX THEATRE has been a fixture on Pittsburgh's Southside for over
90 years. An historic space, the Rex started as one of the city's famous
movie houses and has continued its legacy of providing entertainment to
area residents. Now the Rex is known as a unique and flexible performance
space that accommodates local and national acts, events, and films.
As of January 3rd 2007, the entire theatre is
smoke free. Being a theatre and concert venue, we are now in compliance
with the new Allegheny County smoking ban.
Theatre Area and Seating
The theatre is separated from the bar area with etched double glass doors,
and allows a general admission capacity of 550 people (420 seated). The
bar area, from which you can see the stage, holds an additional 80 persons.
The generous 20' X 18' stage is flanked by two wings which act as storage
for band equipment. Seating, consisting of cocktail tables and chairs,
high tables and stools, and individual seats, is flexible and can be configured
to suit the needs of individual shows and events.
Bar Area and Seating
The Rex bar offers a variety of beers, liquors and its fresh homemade
pizzas in a casual atmosphere. We feature Yuengling draft beers at all
Elko Concert Production events. Smaller acts or events can take advantage
of its more intimate setting by in front of the double glass doors to
the theatre, right by our baby grand piano.
Box Office
The Box Office is the first stop for guests, where they are welcomed and
can either purchase or show prepaid tickets to events. Our Box Office
Manager handles ticketing and security needs.
Sound System and Lighting
Our state of the art system features a 32-channel Midas console, a DBX
Drive Rack Digital Crossover, a Presonus Digital Stereo EQ, eight-way
monitor mix from an offstage Yamaha monitor board, outboard gear from
Lexicon, Alesis, Behringer, and Roland, and speaker enclosures featuring
JBL and Community.
DVD Projection System
We have an in-house DVD-VHS projection system that is both convenient
and easy to use. Our retractable 14' X 9' glass-beaded screen gives beautiful
depth of field and clarity to your images, similar to film. We can also
use the S-Video out from your own computer or camera for custom presentations.
Baby Grand Piano
To enhance your musical experience, the Rex has a 5'2" grand piano
in the lobby for open stage and jazz nights (Leonard Piano Company circa
1941). This instrument is tuned regularly, and has already added so much
to the enjoyment of many events here.
Tour Bus Parking and
Green Room
For national acts, Elko Concerts and the Rex can secure tour bus parking
right behind stage on 17th street. There is a spacious three room dressing
area with plenty of space for crew and hospitality. Please check with
Elko Concerts
for details.
About the South Side
The south side of Pittsburgh is one of the best neighborhoods in the city.
Turn of the century buildings and a thriving business community make a
walk down Carson street a real treat. "It is as close to a visit
to Greenwich Village as you can get." Artists, musicians, authentic
ethnic food, an active club scene, and even a world class vintage guitar
shop...everything that you could want is within a few blocks of the Rex
Theatre. |
